As well as many other projects

Global Impact has taken the initiative to start the Tree Seed Bank, a dedicated cause to preserve the forests of today for tomorrow. We have started to collect seed from the Hardwood and semi-hardwood forests of North America in an effort to regenerate the loss of forests from clear cutting and to educate the land owners to take the necessary steps to preserve our natural resources. We hope to extend our cause throughout the world.

THE TREE SEED BANk

BANKING ON THE FUTURE OF TREE PRESERVATION

Please take the time to read this:.

If you haven't noticed lately almost anywhere you drive anymore you will see forests being clear-cut. The most acceptable method of logging is selective cutting, but people that own the private lands see big dollar signs in their eyes and go for the clear-cut. This is mainly due to areas of high wood densities are usually located in the rural communities where most of the private woodlots and forest lands are and a high unemployment rate.

Now lets point out some of the biggest problems we are facing with this old problem of clear cutting. Most private landowners are not replanting their woodlots.

1.There is a growing demand for wood which increases woodlot values, thus increasing people with the desire to supply the resources.

2.Property owners are usually not educated on proper forest management techniques and allow the cutthroat logging companies to rape their land.  (Note not all logging companies are this ruthless)

3.There has been a marked increase in wildlife populations in recent years, with a decrease in available food resources for them. (This is partially due to reintroduction of species by the Department of Natural Resources)

4.Take the Deer and Turkey populations for instance. They act as vacuum cleaners on the forest floor gobbling up any and all of the tree seed for sustenance. ( Without tree seed to regenerate the forests, allows for unsightly weeds and scrub plants to become firmly established)

5.The clear-cut forest has a very little chance of regeneration due to the lack of seed stock available due to the four problems listed above. (This continually reduces the watersheds, increases soil erosion, and with fewer trees to help clean the air we breath will be a hard lesson of hindsight in the future.)

Global Impact has taken the initiative to start the Tree Seed Bank. Collecting and preserving tree seed in an effort to protect our forests and to regenerate lost forest resources. By protecting and rejuvenating these woodlands helps to protect all of our natural resources through increasing or sustaining our watersheds and wildlife sanctuaries. Preservation of these woodlots and forests no matter what the size will have an important impact for the future. If the trend of not replanting  our forests, especially the indigenous variety of trees throughout the land is not reversed , we may very well lose in our battle to have a healthy environment. How will we replant them without seed. The TREE SEED BANK that's how.

Global Impact is collecting, preserving and propagating the tree seed to replant areas of lost forest due to clear-cutting and natural disaster. Please help by giving what you can. Thank you, Mike Manypenny
